English Class Expectations

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will know and be able to…
  1. Identify the genres of literary study including novels, drama, poetry, short stories, and non-fiction.
  2. Write narratively, informatively, and persuasively using improved writing conventions.
  3. Connect what they read to background knowledge and their own life.
  4. Communicate more effectively using the core methods of communication: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  5. Establish an authority on their learning through inquiry.
 
Course Materials Needed:
Students will need the following materials for English to bring to class DAILY:
  1. English Notebook—preferably this is a 3-subject notebook to be divided into Notes, Writing, and Assignments. It can be a single subject notebook with tabs if necessary.
 
  1. Manila file folder with student’s name on it—Deibert will provide this.
 
  1. PEN OR PENCIL
 
  1. Textbook or novel in use for class at that time.
